Kawartha Country Cloggers

Joan Butt - Instructor
After Joan retired and moved to the City of Kawartha Lakes, she saw her first clogging performance at a Lindsay fundraising event and was hooked.  She saw an ad in the local paper, began to take lessons in Lindsay and joined a clogging group in Bobcaygeon.  A year and a half later she started to dance with the Clogging Grandmothers, now called the Kawartha Country Cloggers.  In the fall of 2013 Joan began teaching the group after the last director retired.  She loves teaching clogging and hopes to continue for many years.

 Carol Chellew - Beginners Instructor

Over the years, Carol has tried her hand (and feet) at ballet, jazz and tap but it wasn't until 2005 when she discovered clogging that she finally found her fit.  Carol joined the group in 2011 and took on the role of instructing the Beginner Class in 2013.

  9. What is clogging?

The Kawartha Country Cloggers is a group of ladies who meet each week to hone their clogging skills for upcoming performances.  Originally called The Clogging Grandmothers who started in 1988, the group changed their name when all the ladies from the original group retired.  Because all of the members live in the City of Kawartha Lakes, the group decided that The Kawartha Country Cloggers would be the official group name.  Every Wednesday classes are offered in Lindsay from 9:30-11:30am.

Over the years, the group has performed at agricultural fairs in Sutton, Beaverton, Lindsay, Fenelon Falls, Minden, Kinmount and Bobcaygeon and at special events such as fund raisers, talent shows and anniversaries.  They also entertain at retirement centers, nursing homes and hospitals.

The ladies attend workshops to learn new dances and choreography.  The Nickel City Festival in New York is one workshop that many members have attended over the last 10 years.

Not just anyone can be a Kawartha Country Clogger.  You need to enjoy dancing and having fun to be a part of this group!  If you would like more information about the group please contact Carol at 705.738.4974 or email kawarthian@gmail.com
